Role Overview:
We are looking to hire an experienced heavy equipment mechanic to inspect, service, and maintain our range of heavy-duty equipment. As a mechanic, you will be responsible for driving to the job site, inspecting engines and equipment, carrying out services, conducting repairs, and providing routine maintenance on all company vehicles and equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on all company vehicles to include but not limited to:
- Pickup trucks
- Light duty trucks
- Forklift
- Pay loader
- Tractors, mowers, chainsaws...
- Piston Bully and Prinoth Snowcats
- Four-wheelers, snowmobiles, ATVs, and UTVs
- Diesel and gas engines
- 12-volt & 24-volt systems
- Hydraulic & hydrostatic systems
- Trouble shoot and do repairs to get equipment up and running
- Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately
- Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality, safety, and longevity
- Adjusting equipment and replacing faulty parts
- Repairing damaged equipment parts
- Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments
- Schedule future maintenance sessions and advise motorists on good vehicle use
- Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g., leaks)
- Record all routine maintenance and repairs for each piece of equipment
- Be able to perform vehicle maintenance repair needs in all outdoor temperatures to get down equipment up and running
- Routinely use had, air, and electric power tools
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, follows safety procedures and guidelines
- Notifies Manager of all unusual events, circumstances, or other safety or quality control issues
- Follow and adhere to all OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and Hazmat/SPCC standards
- Complete work in a timely manner with demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
- Maintain a friendly, congenial, and helpful attitude while effectively dealing with guests and other employees
- Perform other duties as directed
- Assist vehicle and equipment users with mechanical and operational procedures
- Work with other mountain ops departments as needed
Additional Duties: Each member of our Mountain Operations team is expected to work together to help each other achieve success in their primary function.
- Work alongside snowmakers during snowmaking season so we may achieve our opening goals
- Operate snowmaking equipment for creating manufactured snow from water resources
- Produce quality snow using air, water, and fan equipment
- Test the quality of snow as it is made, reporting findings and conditions to the supervisor
- Relocate guns and hoses to various areas around the mountain
- Changing nozzles on snow guns when necessary to maintain efficiency
- Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment, including checking water pipes, fluid levels and volume, temperature controls, energy consumption, and diesel fuel systems
- Document and report mechanical/safety issues, complete maintenance logs and checklists
- Shovel/remove snow around snowmaking equipment and other areas as needed
- Maintain all safety barriers, padding, and guards around snowmaking equipment
- Work safely near heavy equipment, high voltage, and high-water pressures
- Drive snowmobiles, trucks, and ATVs as necessary
- During the season assist Lift MX in getting a lift operational should it go down
- Participate in lift and gondola evac training so you are ready and able to help in the case of an emergency evacuation
- Assist both lift and snowmaking maintenance on a project basis as needed
Qualifications
- Must be 18+ in age
- Must possess a valid Class D driver’s license, Class A license preferred.
- Be able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proven experience as auto mechanic
- Proven work experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic
- Ability to understand basic electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of vehicles
- Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods
- Ability to handle various tools (e.g., pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g., lift)
- Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protection against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc.
- Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment.
- Ability to work after-hours if required
- Effective communication skills
- Certification as a heavy equipment mechanic is preferred
Physical Requirements
- Able to bend, lift, carry, crawl, climb, reach/extend arms and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
- Must be able to work extended hours outdoors in adverse weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat.
- Ability to safely operate snowcats, snowmobiles, ATVs, and other equipment on difficult uneven terrain.
- Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-50 lbs. frequently, and up to 75 lbs. occasionally
- Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties.
